What Does the HALO Laser Treat?

HALO addresses a wide range of skin concerns, including:

  • Sun damage and brown spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Acne scars
  • Overall skin dullness and loss of clarity

HALO can produce visible improvements across multiple concerns in a single treatment. Many patients come in to address one specific issue and are happy to see overall improvements in skin quality and reflectivity as well.

How Does a HALO Treatment Work?

To start, a topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to help minimize discomfort. Once the skin is ready, your provider guides the HALO handpiece across the surface, delivering both wavelengths simultaneously with each pass. Built-in cooling keeps you comfortable, and motion-tracking technology ensures even coverage throughout the treatment area. Depending on the size of the area being treated, most sessions take between 15 and 30 minutes. Depth and intensity are fully adjustable based on your skin and how much downtime you are comfortable with.

What to Expect After a HALO Treatment

It is normal for the skin to feel warm and look red and swollen, a response that can last for several days. Sometimes this redness can peak at around day three before gradually getting better. You may also notice a sandpaper texture as dead skin cells start to flake, and the skin may look more bronzed. This is sometimes referred to as MENDS (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) and is a sign that the skin is healing. By days four to five, this layer naturally sloughs off to reveal smoother, more even skin underneath.

A gentle cleanser, moisturizer and daily broad-spectrum sunscreen are recommended during the healing process, and direct sun exposure should be avoided for at least seven days. Most patients are able to return to their normal routine within a few days, though lighter treatments may allow for an even quicker return. While some results are visible within the first week, the skin continues to improve over the following weeks and months as new collagen develops.

Benefits of the HALO Laser

HALO offers several advantages over traditional laser resurfacing, including:

  • Combined ablative and non-ablative wavelengths for comprehensive results in one session
  • Fully customizable treatment intensity to match your concerns and schedule
  • Shorter recovery time compared to fully ablative resurfacing
  • Significant improvement in as few as one to two treatments
  • Suitable for all skin types

Who Is a Good Candidate for HALO?

HALO works well for a wide range of patients, from those just starting to notice early signs of aging to those looking to address more advanced sun damage or scarring. Because the treatment intensity is fully adjustable, it can accommodate different skin types and sensitivity levels. HALO can also be incorporated into a long-term skincare plan for patients who want to maintain their results and keep their skin looking youthful.

Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding may need to delay treatment, as should those who are dealing with an active skin infection in the treatment area. If the skin has had recent sunburn or extended sun exposure, we may also recommend waiting. A consultation is the best way to determine whether HALO is the right fit for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many HALO treatments do I need?

Most patients see results after one to two HALO treatments, which is notably fewer sessions than many older fractional laser technologies require. Some patients prefer a longer series of lighter sessions spaced out so they can enjoy gradual improvement with minimal disruption to their schedule.

How does HALO compare to Moxi Laser Treatments?

Moxi is a lighter, non-ablative fractional laser used for “prejuvenation” of the skin. It is often used for younger patients who want to stay on top of signs of aging and don’t want downtime. HALO offers a more intense treatment for those who have more visible signs of aging, acne scarring, sun damage and more. Both are Sciton lasers offered at our practice, and your provider can help determine which option makes the most sense for your skin.

When is the best time of year to get a HALO treatment?

Because sun exposure should be limited during the healing process, many patients choose to schedule HALO treatments in the fall or winter when they are less likely to spend extended time outdoors. That said, HALO can be performed year-round as long as you are diligent about sun protection during recovery.

How much does a HALO treatment cost?

The cost of a HALO treatment depends on the intensity of the session and the size of the area being treated. Because each treatment is customized, pricing can vary from patient to patient. We will discuss pricing during your consultation and can walk you through available financing options to help make treatment more accessible.
