Pre-Treatment Preparation
Don’t use any products that could irritate your skin three to five days before your treatment. This includes harsh active ingredients like retinoids and exfoliating acids or scrubs. You should also avoid waxing or laser hair removal in the treatment for two weeks, and stay out of direct sunlight the week of your treatment.
When your appointment day arrives, avoid putting any products or makeup on your skin and tell your provider about any recent treatments, new breakouts or skin medications you are using.
During the Treatment
Your provider will cleanse your face and pat the skin dry to prepare it for the next stage. Your skin will be treated in small sections, focusing on the cheeks, forehead, chin, jawline and upper lip. You will feel a light scratching sensation. After the entire surface is treated, your provider may apply a serum to calm and protect the newly exposed skin.
Post-Treatment Care
Your skin will feel softer right away, but may also look a little pink. You can apply a gentle moisturizing product that does not clog the pores, and protect it with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
As your skin heals, continue to avoid harsh ingredients and exfoliants. It can also be helpful to avoid anything that overheats the skin or causes you to sweat, like heavy workouts, saunas, hot showers or hot tubs. Do not pick or scratch at the sensitive skin.
