Your Restylane treatment begins with a thorough cleansing of the treatment area. We may apply ice or a topical numbing cream for additional comfort, though Restylane products are formulated with lidocaine and most patients find this sufficient. Using a fine needle, small amounts of Restylane are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume in your areas of concern.
The entire process typically takes 15 to 30 minutes to complete, depending on the number of areas being treated. You’ll see immediate results and some swelling that resolves within 24 to 28 hours. You’ll be able to return to your regular activities immediately after treatment.
Restylane involves little to no downtime or recovery. At most, you may notice some mild redness, swelling and bruising at the injection sites that subsides quickly, usually within a day or two. In the meantime, these side effects can be covered with concealer or makeup.
For optimal results, we typically recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment and keeping your head elevated when you sleep. Results are immediately visible, but your final outcome will become apparent as swelling decreases. Once developed, you can expect your new look for six to 18 months, depending on where the product was used. The effects of treatment tend to wear off faster in areas with high mobility, like the lips and mouth, but touch-ups can be scheduled to extend and maintain your refreshed appearance.
